Winter in Zion National Park

Cross Country SkiingZion National Park is located in the heart of Southern Utah's color country and is Utah's most popular national park. As home to breathtaking scenery and some of the most beautiful slot canyons in the world, Zion attracts around three million visitors each year. The summer months are packed with tourists who come in swarms to hike, bike and enjoy the beauty that the canyon has to offer. If you want to visit Zion and beat the heat and the crowds, winter is a great time to come and see the sites. Zion’s scenery is equally spectacular during the winter months and guests are just beginning to appreciate the number of winter activities that are available.

Zion National Park’s winters are generally mild, allowing visitors to experience the beauty and solitude of Zion without the throngs of tourists that fill the park from March through October. Located a short three hours from Las Vegas and 5 hours from Salt Lake City, Zion National Park is a perfect get-a-way for visitors looking to escape the winter blues and enjoy some exciting outdoor recreation. Such as snowmobiling along the east rim of the park, or snowshoeing through Zion’s incredible red rock canyon.

While you are here, you will want to stay at Zion Ponderosa, a beautiful resort located on the east rim of the Park, beautifully nestled among the pines at 6,500 feet above sea level. Zion Ponderosa is located at the base of an 11,000-foot mountain in the center of the Dixie National Forest. During the winter months Zion Ponderosa provides a variety of rental cabins and vacation homes, which are the perfect base camp for your Zion National Park vacation.
